CEE Professor helps Gym Owner with COVID-19 Safety Measures

As the country was just starting to come to grips with a global pandemic, a Blacksburg Virginia Gym owner reaches out to one of her patrons, a professor of civil environmental engineering (CEE) at nearby Virginia Tech, for assistance with keeping her workspace safe for employee and customers alike. 


And when the owner found out a trainer had contracted Covid-19 away from work, 50 patrons were tested as part of contact tracing. The outcome was fascinating....ZERO INFECTIONS!!


This reality shows the importance not only proper spacing, but also circulation and ventilation, as well a very thoughtful use of commercially available CO2 sensors

MIT Researchers Simulate COVID Infection within a room

MIT Professor Jeb Bush says 6ft separation "over simplistic and "dangerous" as people move to enclosed spaces during to avoid closed  weather. 


The MIT simulation tool models many variables to calculate infection time:

Room Size, Ceiling height, HVAC System/Filters, Humidity, Ventilation, Occupancy, Mask wearing & type.
